Spring is officially here! Is your compressed air system on your spring cleaning list?
Compressed air systems, if properly maintained, can operate for years – but they need a little extra TLC on an annual basis to make sure they’re kept in good working order. Spring is the perfect time to perform preventative maintenance and inspections, because the rising temperatures and humidity of summer can force your compressed air system to work harder to provide clean, dry compressed air, and make it more at risk of breakdowns and work disruptions.
To prevent frustration and unnecessary downtime, add these tasks to add to your air compressor spring maintenance checklist:
Spring Cleaning To-Dos:
- Make sure the room/area is well ventilated
- Keep ambient air under 90 degrees if possible
- Change system line filters
- Service/adjust dryers to prevent moisture downstream
- Ensure refrigerated dryers have proper freon levels
- Clean and test drains on tanks, dryers, and filters
- Service oil/water separators
- Drain water off of oil sump daily
- Check and change air filters if needed
- Check for leaks around the compressor
- Check oil level and top off as necessary (never mix different types of oils)
- Pull oil analysis sample
- Check condensate drains, increase drain cycle (if required)
- Check and change the thermostat if required
- Clean and check oil coolers and aftercoolers
- Check belts (if applicable)
- Clean and check dryer condenser on refrigerated models
- Check and change inline filters if required
- Check tank drain
- Remove dust and debris
- Test for unusual noises and system vibrations
